Our Mission
As the European Federation of Allergies and Airways Diseases Patients' Associations (EFA), we champion the rights and well-being of patients with allergies, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) across Europe. Our narrative stands as a testament to the power of community engagement, collective action, and visionary leadership. We strive towards a future where every patient's voice is heard, every need is met, and every life is empowered.
Our Community
EFA's history is rich with collaboration, advocacy, and empowerment. Founded as a patient-led organization, we are driven by a passionate commitment to improving the lives of individuals living with allergies, asthma, and COPD. Our community members are the heart of EFA, representing diverse communities across Europe. The EFA Community plays a vital role in shaping our advocacy efforts and projects. By working hand in hand with our members, we promote patient-centered research, influence health policy, and advocate for meaningful change.
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM), the highest governing body, exemplifies this collaborative spirit. Learn more about the EFA 2023 AGM here
Governance and Leadership
The EFA AGM, held on 27-28 April 2023 in Gent, Belgium, highlighted our commitment to transparency and democratic process. The AGM approved the 2022 Annual Report, the 2023 Workplan and budget, and elected a new Board. This new Board, with expertise in law, marketing, organizational management, partnerships, mobilization, and volunteering, is dedicated to empowering EFA to advocate for all people with allergies and airways diseases. Partnerships and Funding
EFA secured support from 11 sustainable corporate partners and continued collaboration with public funding partners. Our partnerships with medical societies like the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) are vital for integrating patient perspectives into clinical practice and research.
EFA actively participates in global initiatives such as the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and the Global Allergy and Airways Patient Platform (GAAPP). These collaborations amplify our voice and ensure that patient needs are represented in international forums. More on EFA Partnerships here: Partnerships
