In 2024, EFA continued its Prevent programme, advocating for stronger policies to protect allergy and respiratory patients from environmental and lifestyle-related risks. Our work focused on key areas such as food allergy management, tobacco and vaping control, indoor air quality, and chemical exposure—ensuring that patient voices shape EU policies that impact their health and well-being.
We engaged our community of members in EU and international discussions on food allergies, pushing for clearer food allergen labelling and food allergy management, access to adrenaline devices (lifesaving treatment), policies that ensure the inclusion of food allergy students at school, and having adrenaline devices available in schools and public settings.
In tobacco control, we collaborated with partners to advocate for stricter regulations and stronger enforcement of smoke-free environments.
Through the EU-funded SynAir-G project, we took steps in translating scientific evidence into policies improving indoor air quality. Finally, we worked with experts to address the presence of harmful chemicals in consumer products, calling for stricter regulations to reduce health risks.
With the Prevent programme in 2025, EFA will remain committed to shaping a healthier future for people with allergies and respiratory diseases.
