Allergy

Allergies are increasingly present among the general population. Yet in Serbia there is limited recognition of their prevalence, awareness among doctors on treatment, and a severe lack of specialists to treat different allergies.

To shed light on allergies and their treatments, EFA Member Allergy and Me held the first ever accredited symposium on allergies in Serbia. Both doctors and patients attended the event, with the common goal to provide adequate diagnosis, treatment and to increase the quality of life for patients through education.

The symposium, held on 11 September, gathered doctors, medical and pharmaceutical students, patients as well as representatives from pharmaceutical companies to share ideas how to increase the quality of life for allergy patients. Videos of the lectures were provided for those who were unable to attend.

Allergy and Me President Snežana Šundić – Vardić opened the symposium with a review of the organisation’s project programme. Following this presentation, the programme offered 4 sessions which consisted of lectures and practical workshops led by relevant experts on:

  • "Look under the skin" (atopic dermatitis)
  • "Food under the magnifying glass" (food allergies)
  • "To breathe easier" (allergies, allergic rhinitis, asthma)
  • "Anaphylaxis - life is not a gamble"
