On 13 January, the European Parliament Interest Group on Allergy and Asthma will host an online event, ‘Addressing patient unmet needs in allergy and asthma care to explore unmet needs of allergy and asthma patients in care’. The Interest Group is agroup of MEPs who are committed to discussions and policy initiatives to improve the lives of allergy and asthma patients at the EU level.
Led by the Interest Group Chair, MEP Sirpa Pietikäinen, with remarks from EFA President Carla Jones, this event will provoke discussions around the unmet needs in allergy and asthma patient care. With focus on immediate issues and ongoing discussions, such as ongoing challenges, that have been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and an EU Pharmaceutical Strategy, speakers and participants will examine how to address unmet needs for patients at the European and national level, as well as explorerobust policy solutions to improve access to high-level quality care in light of EU health policies that can support and fill in the missing pieces.
We are excited to welcome speakers from key organisations to take part in a panel discussion. MEP Pietikäinen will be joined by representatives from the European Commission Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and the Patient Access Partnership (PACT). The panel, which will be open to Q&A with the audience, will explore ideas including a Pan-European Best Practice Guidance for the treatment of allergy and asthma, as well as medicine development and patient-access to needs based innovation.
