COMMUNITY, - Expert Patient Network

Since 2022, EFA has been supporting its community of members with scholarships to participate in the European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation’s (EUPATI) Patient Expert Training Programme. The training, known as the EUPATI Fellow Training, is designed for patients and patient representatives to learn more about research and drug development.

In 2024, EFA is excited to continue supporting our Members Community, with 5 scholarships for allergy, asthma and/or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and patient representatives to complete the European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation’s (EUPATI) Patient Expert Training Programme from 2024-2025.

What is the EUPATI Patient Expert Training?

EUPATI is a patient-led partnership working across stakeholders to enhance patient engagement in medicine research and development (R&D), funded by the European Union. The training, also known as the EUPATI Fellow Training, is designed specifically for patients and patient representatives. The training takes place on a flexible online platform featuring six e-learning modules on medicines research and development (R&D) processes in the EU, from research priorities to dissemination, communication and post-approval.

Why should I apply?

If you want to know how to participate in a medical research process, understand better the process of drug development and become a patient “expert”, this is the right opportunity!

Graduates of the EUPATI Fellow Training, known as EUPATI Fellows or Alumni, receive a certificate which qualifies them as patient experts in their field. This certification is recognised within the patient engagement field and identifies graduates as highly sought-after partners by stakeholders.

EUPATI Alumni are active within the patient organisations but also work with industry, regulators and health technology assessment (HTA) bodies, at national and European levels.

Currently, there are around 330 EUPATI Alumni in the world, making this a special opportunity to increase the profile of allergy, asthma and COPD patient involvement while having our say in medicine R&D and regulatory processes.

What is the training process?

The training is flexible and on-demand, meaning participants can complete most of the courses in their own time. The training will take place over roughly 15 months, with 300 hours of required training materials available on the online platform. Early registration in 2024 will allow EFA members to begin the modules before the official start date of the program later in the year.

In addition to the online programme, there are two mandatory in-person/live stream training events in which participants will have the opportunity to meet other fellows and deepen their R&D knowledge.

EFA will support you all along your EUPATI journey and will cover all costs related to the completion of the programme (registration, travel, accommodation, etc.).
