CARE, - Digital Health

The deadline is 27th March. Shortlisted innovators will be invited to the award ceremony with the European community of respiratory patients' organisations in April 2023.

Brussels, 15/03/2023 - The European Federation of Allergies and Airways Diseases (EFA) has launched a Prize to welcome applications from innovators whose digital products improve the lives and health of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients in Europe.

The EFA Patients’ Digital Prize takes stock of the incremental use of patients and carers of connected medical devices, telemedicine and e-health apps, as well as digital health platforms to manage their care.

The EFA Patients’ Digital Prize is set to recognise digital health solutions addressing asthma and COPD patients’ needs while empowering them to manage their care. As a patient initiative, the Jury will be especially looking for innovations that embed patients’ input from development to implementation, are accessible for patients’ use, and facilitate dialogue between patients, healthcare professionals, and the digital sector. In the jury panel there will be representatives from patients’ associations, European and national institutions, physicians as well as corporate executives from the digital health sector.

A European recognition from patients. The finalists of the EFA Patients’ Digital Prize will be invited to the award ceremony late April 2023 in presence of EFA’s 45 patients’ organisations in 26 countries. This prize is the acknowledgement of EFA patients’ community – the users of digital health solutions – to put a spotlight on champions who work to improve their disease management and quality of life. This represents a relevant opportunity to engage and build meaningful connections with COPD and asthma patients associations and healthcare stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to foster strong working relationships between the digital sector and the patient community to create more open, inclusive, collaborative and patient-centred healthcare. The winners will be recognised by patients at European level as forward thinkers, engaged in empowering people with asthma and COPD to improve health outcomes, and key digital health partners.

EFA will also communicate about the winning solutions across social media channels and on the media.

The application is open until 27th March, 2023. All information is publicly available in EFA’s website (undefined). The submission and selection criteria have been informed by EFA’s DIG_IT Report: Asthma and COPD Patients’ Digital Journey in Europe. The report, launched in June 2022, is the outcome of a survey to over 900 patients in five European countries about patients’ reported benefits, barriers and concerns around digital health.

The EFA’s DIG_IT Prize is being made possible thanks to unrestricted grants from EFA’s Sustainable Corporate Partners Chiesi and Roche.
