Patient and patients representatives’ direct feedback is crucial to help stimulate policy discussions and inspire new approaches to resolve most of the problems confronting them on a daily basis.
At present, EFA gathers 45 national patient associations representing 26 European countries and over allergy, asthma and COPD patients living in Europe.
Members of EFA are national patients’ organisations in the field of allergy, asthma and/or COPD, who have been provisionally approved by the EFA Board and validated then by the Annual General Meeting, composed by all the EFA Members. Members demonstrate that they are legitimate, not-for-profit independent patient organisations, and transparent on their funding. EFA is inclusive and welcomes new members but it is fundamental that governance of Member organisations supports a genuine and inclusive allergy and airways patient voice in their country. All EFA Members accept and abide by EFA’s Statutes and internal rules of accountability, legitimacy, and independence.
EFA Members help build and share the allergy, asthma and COPD patients’ perspectives in Europe. EFA works hand in hand with our members to promote patient-centred research and care in health policy, and advocate for change for all people with allergy and airways diseases.
Thanks to our advocacy activities and projects, and our role in many EU-funded projects, we provide valuable information to patient associations across Europe and create opportunities for them to familiarise and influence European health policy and research.

EFA membership is an opportunity for European patient associations of allergy and respiratory diseases to work together and share best practices through working groups disease specific on asthma and allergy, COPD, food allergy and atopic eczema as well as on cross-cutting topics likeprevention and patient education.
By joining forces, EFA membership:
- Ensures access to updated information on the development of European public health policies and research,
- provides a louder voice for national members when approaching local policy makers,
- enables their representation in EU policies and research,
- offers a springboard for networking with other patients associations in Europe and,
- proposes opportunities for training and capacity building possibilities
