On 18th October the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP) organised an event on “H2020 funding for Tobacco Control: Scaling up for the prevention of lung diseases in the EU”.

The importance of the role of tobacco control research in Europe was highlighted by Commissioner Andriukaitis as well as representatives from DG SANTÉ, DG RTD, and the Global Alliance on Chronic Disease.

Tobacco control research and its importance in the EU were also topics we focused on during this event as well as the burden of tobacco and lung diseases in the EU and Horizon2020 projects on lung diseases prevention. The last session provided an insight into a few successful EU projects dealing with tobacco control research such as EUREST-PLUS, Smoke Free Brain or FRESH AIR.
