PACT is an awarded innovative and inclusive ‘pact’ for fair access for patients, led by the EPF and the Bulgarian Patient Platform. Susanna joined the partners assembly in Brussels in December. The Assembly reviewed the achievements 2018 and looked towards the plans for 2019. In 2019, the PACT will provide the platform for inclusive discussion and sharing best practices through three key events. It will also ensure the re-establishment of the European Parliament Interest Group on Access to Healthcare after EU elections, and putting access on the agenda in an uncertain political landscape. For EFA it is a great honour to take upon the responsibility, we deal with access every single day when it comes to allergy, asthma or COPD.
‘Towards a fairer and more effective measurement of access to healthcare across the EU’. This is the title of a pilot project carried out on behalf of the European Commission and presented at the PACT Meeting at the European Parliament, hosted by the MEP Interest Group on Access to Healthcare. To represent the patients’ perspective, we attended the meeting as well as the following panel discussion with participants amongst others from OECD, Eurofund and the European Commission.
On December 5, we participated at the PACT Meeting at the European Parliament, hosted by the European Parliament Interest Group on Access to Healthcare. Dr. Katerina Mantouvalou and Dr. Photis Stavropoulus presented results of the pilot project 'Towards a fairer and more effective measurement of access to healthcare across the EU', carried out on behalf of DG SANGE of the European Commission. The project is a result of a proposal put forward in 2016 by the MEP Interest Group on Access following a close cooperation with the Patient Access Partnership (PACT) in the context of the need for comparable and timely information on access to healthcare in the EU. The pilot project will help to identify and clarify gaps, limitations and obstacles that patients face when it comes to access to healthcare.
Since patients have different access to healthcare among but also within EU countries, the formal presentation had been followed by an interactive panel discussion with participants amongst others from OECD, Eurofund and the European Commission on identifying and overcoming gaps and limitations to access to healthcare across the EU countries.
