Europe is one of the most affected regions by asthma prevalence in adults. The European Asthma Research and Innovation Partnership (EARIP) aims to reduce asthma attacks, emergency healthcare use, asthma deaths through coordinated and pan-European research.
Funded by the European Commission 7th Framework Programme, EARIP will promote best practices for asthma through national asthma programmes in Europe, by identifying research gaps and establishing strong research networks for change within national healthcare systems. EARIP is a project coordinated by our member Asthma UK.
EFA’s Involvement
In this project, EFA headsed a work package addressing healthcare systems change. We outlined how to develop better and more efficient health and care systems that put individual patients at the heart of asthma management/treatment. This was done through a literature review of published European national asthma programmes.
Among our contributions to EARIP to date we highlighted the publication of the manuscript National and regional asthma programmes in Europe in the European Respiratory Journal and its launch in an event at the European Parliament.
We also organised the presentation of EARIP’s objectives at an event at the European Parliament. Many patients attended the event to get better insight on the project. An event report and a press release were published in June 2014
Most recently we held a stakeholder workshop entitled 'We know how to curve down asthma: lessons from national programmes', the report from this event is available to download here (PDF).
