The EAACI (European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology) annual conference is to be held this year from June 16th to 20th in Geneva, under the official theme “At the Crossroads of Research, Practice and Education”. At the conference, the EAACI Patient Organisation’s Committee meeting will be held, with the participation of EFA president Breda Flood. This Committee was recently set up to bring some patient organisations together to facilitate communication between scientists, healthcare professionals and patients in the field of allergy and to develop common policies and understanding amongst them at global level. Also due to be held during the conference is the EAACI Workshop on Patient Organisations. During this Workshop critical issues such as children and allergies at school will be discussed, as well as the EFA book on respiratory allergies. Among other activities that will be taking place in Geneva is the launch of EAACI’s “Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Campaign” to promote educational initiatives and encourage the development of guidelines on the issue, and a “Public Affairs Session”, to which EU politicians have been invited, to raise political awareness of the issues of allergy and childhood respiratory disease amongst European policy makers.
