EFA is pleased to be part of the EU Healthy Air Coalition (EUHAC) as a founding member. Launched in mid-April, the coalition brings together organisations representing patients, doctors, healthcare professionals, and health insurers, all of them with a significant track record in clean air advocacy.
The EU Healthy Air Coalition formalises the exchanges and coordination that have been happening naturally between public health advocacy organisations to advance air quality standards in the EU.
EUHAC will ensure a strong and unified voice towards EU policymakers in support of healthy air. In future actions and initiatives, EFA will bring the perspective of allergy and respiratory patients, a vulnerable community disproportionately affected by air pollution.
Beyond EFA, the EUHAC members are the Steering Committee of European Doctors (CPME), the European Cancer Leagues (ECL), the European Lung Foundation (ELF), the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the Independent Health Insurance Funds (MLOZ). It is jointly led and facilitated by the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) and the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA).
The EU Healthy Air Coalition welcomes European Parliament vote for cleaner air and better health
Right after the launch, the EUHAC issued a joint letter addressed to MEPs calling them to vote for the trilogue agreement for the revision of the EU Air Quality Directive. The adoption by the EP Plenary added a crucial step along the path of this important draft agreement becoming EU law. This is the reaction of EUHAC to the news of the EP adoption.
Continuing the joint advocacy on the revision of the EU Air Quality Directive, the coalition partners will focus on the upcoming policies that affect the air we breathe. A key example is the evaluation and potential revision of the EU National Emissions Directive, which has just been launched.
In view of the crucial policy battles that are coming up on clean air, EFA looks forward to continuing fighting them alongside valuable and highly experienced partners in the EU Healthy Air Coalition!
