Declaration on Patient-Centred Healthcare launched at IAPO
A Declaration on Patient-Centered Healthcare was launched at the International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations (IAPO) second Global Patients Congress held in Barcelona, Spain from 22-24 February 2006. The declaration is the first globally accepted definition of patient-centered healthcare developed by and representing the global patients’ movement. The Declaration contains five principles which, if followed, will result in patient-centered healthcare: Respect; Choice and Empowerment; Patient Involvement in Health Policy; Access and Support; and Information. IAPO is calling for the support and collaboration of policy-makers, health professionals, service providers, and health-related industries to endorse and commit to these Five Principles and make them the core of their policies and practice.
