Are you attending the European Respiratory Society Congress 2015? Let’s meet up! This year we will be presenting our latest research on COPD care in Europe, that shows we are far from having harmonised approaches for care and prevention and we will continue with our campaign to enable air travel with oxygen. Do not miss the launch of our new patient-friendly material on COPD.
Although the Netherlands has very strict rules to allow patients circulate around medical congress, we will be working hard to make the case of chronic obsctructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients’ needs around Europe.
Understanding inequalities in COPD prevention and care policies across Europe
This year we are honoured to have been selected for a poster discussion of our latest abstract regarding the standards that should apply when preventing and treating COPD. It is well known that tobacco is the key risk to develop respiratory and incurable conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but public health policies aimed to help quitting smoking still provide limited support to patients in many European countries.
EFA, together with Members, has conducted a survey among 19 European countries to map the public authorities’ responsible for policies impacting COPD patients, including smoking cessation programmes. The survey report “Harmonising prevention and other measures for COPD patients across Europe” shows important inequalities among European countries regarding the existence of support programmes, counselling and reimbursement of therapies.
Session:"Best abstracts in COPD management", 27th September, 12:50 - 14:40, Hall 14-05.
Steps for passengers flying with medical oxygen
Although more than 3.5 million people need medical oxygen in Europe and many are advised by their doctors to move to regions with temperate climates that will ease the symptoms of their disease, travelling with oxygen remains an adventure many do not know how to face. We have documented the difficulties patients face when flying with medical oxygen (procedures, price, different rules applying) and have put together all steps patients need to take to ensure they have a smooth travel.
Do not miss our presentation "COPD affects your lungs, pocket and social life! Real experiences from hospitals to airports", 28th September, 09:30, World Village.
We are looking forward to meet you at Congress: our stand will be located at World Village, number 37!
