“Our dream is to have a system that better supports us." Dominique Hamerlijnck, an asthma patient from the Netherlands, volunteer at EFA Member Longfonds, has been interviewed by MedTechEurope to explain her involvement in myAirCoach, an EU funded project.
Dominique is actively involved in the development of a new e-health self-management tool called MyAirCoach to give patients daily information about their condition and ultimately help them get better care. “The app will gather all kinds of measurements like respiratory rate, peak flow (ability to exhale), local air humidity & quality, nitric oxide and exhaled breath temperatures ‒ all of which can give insight into a person’s condition,” she explains.
Asthma patients deal with different conditions of disease. “Having asthma is exhausting. It affects so many other aspects of your life, like your sleep,” she says.
eHealth should be better designed and explained to patients. myAirCoach merges mobile health potential to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare with the daily needs of chronic asthma patients. To achieve this, a group of patient representatives is involved in all phases of the research process, facilitated by EFA.
