The AirPROM project ended in May 2016, with a public event organised by EFA at the European Parliament, hosted by MEP David Borrelli. However the work does not finish when a project ends, especially with the ground-breaking tools that AirPROM has created to better diagnose lung disease.
In the AirPROM prospectus you will find how AirPROM has developed the first computational models of the pulse measurement, multiple breath washout, spirometry and thermoplastry. All the project data have been collected in a knowledge portal and integrated in the electronic European Genome-Phenome Archive, which will allow scientists to study the genetic basis of different disease and to produce patient-specific tools.
Patients are and have been at the centre of AirPROM: to improve and tailor treatments better to individual patient needs. Their involvement in the project has allowed to develop models that can help scientists study the characteristic of the airways, how they work and how they are affected by asthma and COPD without the need to conduct consuming tests or examinations on patients.
