We would like to welcome Ms. Averil Power, who has been appointed as chief executive officer of EFA Member the Asthma Society of Ireland, substituting Sharon Cosgrove.
Averil Power said, “I am honoured to be joining the dynamic and committed team at the Asthma Society. As an asthmatic myself, I know how important the Society’s work is. I was hospitalised several times as a student due to ineffective management of my condition and the prohibitively high cost of preventative medication. While I now have my asthma under control, I remember how frightening those attacks were and I think it is shocking that over fifty people die every year in Ireland from preventable asthma attacks. The Asthma Society is working hard to change this through its health promotion, advocacy and research programmes and its Adviceline. I would encourage all asthmatics to avail of the nurse line by dialling 1800 44 54 64. I look forward to working with the ASI team to strengthen these programmes and ensure everyone with asthma can live full lives, symptom-free.”
Her appointment has been covered by the national press.
The Asthma Society of Ireland is the national charity representing more than 470,000 adults and children with asthma in Ireland. Every year we help hundreds of people to get their Asthma under control. The Asthma Society’s mission is to achieve the best possible asthma care for people in Ireland.
