EFA EU Policy Adviser Daniela Morghenti participated at the workshop “How far can we control the severity of food allergenic reactions by controlling exposure to allergenic food?” organised by the International Life Science Institute Europe on the 16th of September.
The Food Allergy Task Force was composed by patients, clinicians, food producers, and researchers aims to foster the evidence-based consensus how to assess the risks from allergenic group as well as to manage the risks.
Participants were divided into different round tables and Daniela participated at the Round Table “Importance of dose versus severity for food industry”, where the concept of severity was discussed. Although it was difficult to find consensus on what does severity of reaction mean, participants agreed that a non-severe reaction would have consequences to the patient that would not last in time and would not heavily impact the patient’s daily life. From the patients’ perspective, a severe reaction could be consider when a human being has to go to the hospital.
