Almedalen Week in July is an important date in the calendar as it is a meeting point in Sweden for all those looking to discuss important and topical social issues. The event started in 1968 when Olof Palme (the leader of the Social Democratic Party) spoke from the back of a lorry at Kruttornet by Almedalen in Visby on Gotland. Today, Almedalen Week has become a tradition, with many thousands of visitors coming and 3000 to 4000 events within its official program.
EFA Member the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association has been a participant during many years. This summer, the association will discuss the topic of indoor climate in schools, asking politicians what they want to do to improve indoor climate in schools, as an impact on childrens learning exists. Can a better support from the central government be part of the solution?
Facts: The parliamentary parties, via their local representatives on Gotland, are the main organisers of Almedalen Week. The Municipality of Gotland is the host. Everyone else who participates is a co-organiser.
